Plywood Palace Jewellery

”Greetings from Plywood Palace” was an installation/exhibition made in 2007. A room was built up inside the gallery, the boudoir of Miss Kristina. In this room floor tiles, wallpaper, furniture and other utilities were made of plywood. The thought was that it could work as a three dimensional postcard from the imaginary palace.

Plywood - wood in thin layers with crossing fibers - is a common in buildings and furniture as a construction material. The stripes on the edges in the material are very interesting. If using it for modeling organic forms the stripes will affect the visual expression. It can distort form but can also be used for making patterns to underline parts of the object.

There was jewellery in plywood, too. Using material with thin layers glued in different directions details could be taken to the small size.
